Majorelle: A Moroccan Oasis

This intensely blue book takes readers on a tour of the magnificent tropical Moroccan gardens laid out in the 1920s by Louis Majorelle, the French decorator, architect, and painter of both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements.

He gave his name to the purplish shade of blue lavishly used both to paint the house and to ornament the garden decoration, yet an equally important legacy of the garden is the thousands of plants, many rare, that Majorelle collected.

The site was superbly restored and replanted by its most recent owners, Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé, in the vibrant primary colors for which it is justifiably famous.

Bergé's text provides a personal impression of this intimate and exotic garden, while designer Madison Cox supplies a history and overview.
